Fountain Hills is home to the retired and self-styled America’s Toughest Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. Statistically, it’s also one of the safest zip codes in the Phoenix metro.

Among all zip codes in the Valley, Fountain Hills 85268 scored highest atop a survey by ADT Security Services. The community of 24,000 residents is tucked away from the Phoenix metro on the east side of the McDowell Mountains.

According to ADT’s crime stats website, 85268 sees 59% less crime than the national average. It was one of the safest rankings in the Valley within a 50-mile radius of downtown Phoenix.

The study’s methodology examined a range of crimes in communities across the country including assault, property crime, rape and burglary.

ADT ranks zip codes against a score of 100 that represents the national average. Below 100 reflects crime levels less than the national average. Scores above 100 mean that crime is higher than the U.S. average.

The overall Total Crime Index score for Fountain Hills was 41. The Chandler 85249 zip code tied Fountain Hills for the top spot among 86 zip codes around Greater Phoenix. It also had a Total Crime Index score of 41.
