Best Christmas Lights in Phoenix

Looking for one of the best displays of residential outdoor Christmas lights in the Valley this year?

There is a street just north of the Paradise Valley Mall in Phoenix where the neighbors are pulling out all the stops to spread holiday cheer.

Make a trip with your family this December to the 4600-4800 block of E. Voltaire Avenue. The street features an outdoor lights display that is synchronized to Christmas music. Passers-by can tune car radios to 98.1 FM and listen to artists like the Vince Guaraldi Trio and Bing Crosby driving the lights display.

Holiday lights flicker in concert on both sides of the street. East Voltaire Avenue runs east-west near the intersection of Tatum Boulevard and Thunderbird Road.

More than 20 homeowners stretched over two blocks have participated in the synchronized holiday lights display this year. Residential yards here are festooned with candy canes, inflatable elfin figurines and endless strands of colorful LED lights precisely timed to the radio. There is even an electric palm tree to remind you that you haven’t teleported to the Arctic North.

I hope that this tradition continues for the homes in this Phoenix neighborhood. It’s a wonderful gift from these homeowners to the community. It will instantly put you in the holiday spirit.

Here is a video of the Voltaire Avenue Christmas light show that I captured this evening around 7:30pm. The synchronized music on the FM radio is Wizards in Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

One last note. Don’t wait until midnight to pile the kids in the minivan. Most neighbors who participated in the light show had turned off the holiday lights by 10:30pm when I made my second trip through the neighborhood tonight.

Do you know of another street in Phoenix or Scottsdale where homeowner Christmast light displays draw crowds? Add the locations in the comments section below.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
